Register updates

The register updates without a terminal and without Internet: it downloads its new version from the venue server, which receives it with each server update. It installs only versions published by the publisher, and never a version older than its own.

A new version is offered — “Nouvelle version de la caisse disponible (2.0.20).” (New register version available (2.0.20).) with the Mettre à jour (Update) button — only outside service:

  • on the sign-in screen (or the unlock screen), before going in: anyone can launch it;
  • on a main register with no register open on this device;
  • on a tablet that no longer holds anything (no cash, no pending hand-in, no transfer in progress);
  • never during a money operation on screen, a transfer in progress or a print.

If something holds it back, the register says so: “La mise à jour se fera hors service : …” (The update will be done outside service: …). The register version is also shown in the status bar, with “mise à jour disponible” (update available) when there is one.

On the main register PC (Windows or Linux). A main register installed on an Android tablet follows the steps in the Tablet tab.

  1. Tap Mettre à jour (Update). The register checks that the version really comes from the publisher, then downloads it: “Téléchargement depuis le serveur de la salle…” (Downloading from the venue server…) (“En file : d’autres caisses téléchargent.”, Queued: other registers are downloading., if several devices are updating).
  2. “La version 2.0.20 est prête” (Version 2.0.20 is ready): it is installed next to the current version. Tap Redémarrer maintenant (Restart now).
  3. The register restarts on the new version. If it does not start, the old one comes back by itself; the register then says so (“La version 2.0.20 a échoué sur ce poste … : l’ancienne est restée en service.”, Version 2.0.20 failed on this device …: the old one stayed in service.) and operations is warned.

A download cut by the network keeps what was received: Reprendre (Resume) starts again from there. Arrêter (reprendra plus tard) (Stop (will resume later)) abandons without installing anything; the update will be offered again at the next moment outside service.

The venue server always accepts the register of the previous version: a server update during the night never blocks a register left open. Only a register too old for its server must be updated. The Mise à jour obligatoire (Update required) screen explains it — “Cette caisse doit être mise à jour pour fonctionner avec le serveur de la salle (version … ou plus ; cette caisse : …).” (This register must be updated to work with the venue server (version … or later; this register: …).) — and offers Mettre à jour. “Votre session reste au serveur : elle se reprend après la mise à jour.” (Your session stays on the server: it resumes after the update.)

A money operation in progress is never cut: “Mise à jour obligatoire : l’écran de mise à jour s’ouvre dès la fin de l’opération en cours.” (Update required: the update screen opens as soon as the current operation ends.)

On a register PC (Windows or Linux), the previous version is kept. On the sign-in screen, the Revenir à la version précédente (…) (Go back to the previous version (…)) link puts it back in service: a venue administrator identifies (username and password), and the action is recorded. “Seul un administrateur de la salle peut revenir à la version précédente.” (Only a venue administrator can go back to the previous version.)

When the venue server updates itself, the register stays on screen, greyed out: no operation goes out during the outage. The Serveur (Server) box says “Rien n’est perdu : la caisse reprend là où elle en était, rien n’est rejoué.” (Nothing is lost: the register picks up where it was, nothing is replayed.) and tries again by itself, at regular intervals. Nothing to touch: it resumes as soon as the server answers.

Installing a new register (first time) is the technician’s job: see Install a register.
