Pay a debt with its code

A debt is what the venue owes a customer: a withdrawal made by a tablet “paid at the counter”, or an intake remainder left as a debt. It carries a 4-character code that the customer was given. Any open main register pays it when the customer shows this code.

  1. Open Créances (Debts) (the menu shows “Créances · 2” when two are waiting; the Créance à payer (Debt to pay) notification also leads there through Ouvrir les créances, Open debts).
  2. In Code donné par le client (Code given by the customer), type the 4 characters the customer gives you (upper or lower case, it does not matter). The register finds the debt. Or tap Payer (Pay) on a line of the queue: it becomes Choisie (Chosen), then type its code (“Tapez maintenant le code donné par le client : il doit être celui de cette créance.”, Now type the code given by the customer: it must be the code of this debt.). Changer de créance (Change debt) picks another one.
  3. Comment le client est payé (How the customer is paid): Espèces (Cash) is selected in advance. Another mode: “Hors tiroir : aucun billet ne sort du tiroir” (Off-drawer: no banknote leaves the drawer).
  4. If the mode requires it, enter the Référence du paiement (Payment reference).
  5. Tap Payer 40 000 Ar — Espèces (Pay 40,000 Ar — Cash) (the button shows the amount and the mode).
  6. Créance payée (Debt paid): in cash, “sorti du tiroir” (taken out of the drawer); with mobile money, “hors tiroir : aucun billet n’est sorti du tiroir” (off-drawer: no banknote has left the drawer), with the reference. The receipt prints. Payer une autre créance (Pay another debt) resets the screen.
Message What it means What to do
“Aucune créance ouverte ne porte ce code.” (No open debt has this code.) No open debt with this code. Check the code with the customer.
“Cette créance n’est plus à payer.” (This debt is no longer to be paid.) It was paid or closed in the meantime. Do not pay. The server’s sentence says by whom, or names the new code if the debt was replaced.
“Fonds de caisse insuffisants …” (Insufficient register funds …) The drawer is not enough to pay in cash. Demander un ravitaillement (Request a refill), pay with mobile money, or send the customer to another register.
Issue inconnue — vérification en cours (Unknown outcome — checking) The network did not answer; “Le paiement est peut-être passé” (The payment may have gone through). Do not pay the customer twice: the register reads the debt again.
Paiement non parvenu au serveur (Payment did not reach the server) Checked: nothing was paid. Renvoyer (même référence) (Resend (same reference)): the same payment goes out again, never twice.

Two counters paying the same debt at the same moment: only one payment goes through, the other is refused.

The customer would rather play again? After typing the code, tap Créditer une machine (Credit a machine). The credit goes to the chosen machine, “Payé par la créance” (Paid by the debt): no banknote moves. The verdict reads like a credit verdict (Credit a machine). On a coin machine, the debt goes in full: it must be a multiple of the value of one of the machine’s coins, otherwise choose another machine or pay it at the counter.

  • A debt does not block the closing of your register: it belongs to the venue, not to your drawer. It survives the closing, the change of day and a restart.
  • A debt waiting for several days raises an alert (Créances (Debts) banner: “Une créance attend son paiement depuis plusieurs jours.”, A debt has been waiting for payment for several days.). The delay is set per venue.
  • A debt nobody claims is closed in the back office, by operations, with a reason; it can be reopened if the customer comes back (its code may then change). See Debts.
  • The mode of a paid debt is corrected with Signaler une erreur de mode (Report a wrong mode): see Report a wrong payment mode.
