Rescue mode

If the venue database becomes unreadable, the accounts do too: nobody can sign in any more, neither to the back office nor to the register. The venue server then switches by itself to rescue mode, which allows only one thing: restoring a backup from this PC.

On the back office sign-in page, a red Base de la salle illisible (Venue database unreadable) box replaces normal operation: « Personne ne peut se connecter tant que la base ne se lit pas. » (Nobody can sign in as long as the database cannot be read.) It offers the Restaurer une sauvegarde (phrase de restauration) → (Restore a backup (recovery phrase) →) link, which opens the Mode secours (Rescue mode) page.

Rescue mode asks for no account: it is protected by the recovery phrase, the one the administrator wrote on paper and stored in the safe when setting up backups.

Make sure the person who has access to the recovery phrase paper is there.

  1. Choose the backup to restore: those on this PC, newest at the top.
  2. Enter the Phrase de restauration (Recovery phrase), copied from the paper.
  3. Write the Motif (Reason) (required).
  4. Tick J’ai compris que tout ce qui s’est passé depuis cette sauvegarde sera perdu (I understand that everything that happened since this backup will be lost), type RESTAURER.
  5. Click Restaurer avec la phrase (Restore with the phrase).
  6. The server restarts: the page shows the steps, this is normal. At the end, sign in as usual.

What will be lost cannot be measured here, since the current database cannot be read: the loss is found by physically counting the registers and the safe. A raw copy of the unreadable database is kept before anything else, and the request is traced and then added to the audit log of the restored database.

After the restore, follow the À faire après la restauration (To do after the restore) list in Backups and restore: recount the registers, take the safe inventory, recheck the money, and accept the loss if the venue is linked.
