Updates and register devices
The venue server updates with one button, with no terminal. It downloads the new version published by the vendor, checks it, makes a backup, stops for a few minutes, starts the new version and checks it before reopening. If something goes wrong, it goes back to the previous version by itself, with no data loss.
The venue must be linked to the platform to receive new versions.
The venue server
Section titled “The venue server”The Serveur de la salle (Venue server) tab shows the Version du serveur (Server version) card: the installed version, a sentence that says where things stand (up to date, a version available, scheduled, in progress…), and, if there is one, the available version with its notes.
- Read the notes of the available version.
- Choose:
- Mettre à jour cette nuit… (Update tonight…): the update will be applied in the night window (its hours are shown). The registers and the back office stop for a few minutes (the duration is announced), then resume by themselves.
- Appliquer maintenant… (Apply now…): the confirmation box gives the length of the outage. Confirm with Appliquer maintenant (Apply now).
- Follow how it goes: the steps appear one by one, with their duration.
Cashiers are warned in advance: the register shows the planned time and the downtime. During the outage, the back office shows a maintenance banner and reloads by itself when the server is back.
An update requested or scheduled is cancelled with Annuler la mise à jour… (Cancel the update…), as long as the outage has not started: nothing is installed, the installed version stays.
The last result
Section titled “The last result”The Dernier résultat (Last result) block says how the last update ended: installed, cancelled, refused, back to the previous version (no data lost) or failed. The last two cases are in red and raise an alert: tell your technician. The Journal du service de mise à jour (Update service log) (each step, who, when) and the Historique (History) (requests, cancellations, results) keep the whole story.
Register devices
Section titled “Register devices”The administrator gets there through the Postes de caisse (Register devices) tab of Updates; operations have the Postes de caisse entry in the Paramètres (Settings) menu. There is nothing to do here: the register updates by itself, outside service.
- Caisse servie par ce serveur (Register served by this server): the register version the server distributes, and the versions still accepted.
- Postes (Devices): each register, tablet or phone that has declared itself, with its name, its platform, its version, its status, its last update failure, the last person signed in and when it was seen. Search with Rechercher un poste (Search for a device).
- Installer la caisse sur un nouveau poste (Install the register on a new device): the register download links for each platform. See Install a register.
- Historique (History): registers updated, failures, returns to the previous version.
